BeE
My name is Bridgette Norris, I was born in 1985 in a small town in northwest Washington. I’ve always liked to perform and I started acting when I was a kid, and eventually that opened the door to music. I played violin, took a few years of piano lessons and started playing guitar when I was 13.
I never really thought about creating my own music, I just liked singing other peoples songs late at night in my room, especially musicals, I tried out for a few musicals in high school, but only managed to finish one of them. My last year of school, I started hanging out with a group of boys that had been doing their own music for a few years. They started a band called 'the boxcutter hobo'. Eventually the hobos started to record an album, and that's where I got my first experience recording, singing a hook on their song 'human people'.
I really wanted to create my own stuff, but I didn't know what direction I wanted to go in, I knew I didn't want to play guitar, I felt it was a bit too obvious. People had always told me I was going to be the next ani difranco and I didn't want that. I discovered bjork at the perfect time, and after that I knew what I wanted to do. So I recorded a few rough tracks on my friends computer, and within a year acquired a computer of my own, recorded two rough CDS and created bEe.
I played a few shows, sold a few CD’s, and had a lot of fun, but wanted something more solid, more concrete. 'the boxcutter hobo' broke up, and I started recording a lot more with the guitarist, ahren.
Making music alone can be cool, but creating with other people adds energy that you can't get by yourself. In July of '05 I heard about myspace and signed up, I thought it was pretty nerdy, but it's turned out to be pretty cool. I started collaborating with a few people that I met through what I like to call nerdspace, filip, aka monosylabikk, he found me around November of last year, and I couldn't have asked for anything better. I feel very fortunate to be able to share creative space with him.
In December '05 I got a message via myspace asking me to sign with CCT records over in the UK. A few months later I signed the contract.
So here I am today, excited, filled with big ideas and ready to move away from home and into the city. There are tons of things I want to do, but my main goal is to have fun. That’s what's most important to me.
